Who We Are

About Our Winnipeg Funeral Home

Neil Bardal has established itself as a leader among funeral homes in Winnipeg. How have we done it? What makes us so special? Read below to learn what is at the essence of our success, and to learn what makes us who we are.

Our Staff

It starts with our staff. Funeral services are by nature a personal service because you are entrusting people to properly care for your loved one and to give a tribute that their life deserves. Since it is very personal in nature, we have always sought out the best front-line employees we can find.

Our Winnipeg funeral home has some of the best funeral directors in all of Manitoba. They are approachable, compassionate, and are experts in the funeral industry. Along with our expert funeral directors, we have a number of support staff members. The most important trait we made sure each staff member has is passion – A passion to honor people’s lives and to help families through their grief. It takes special people to work in the funeral industry, and therefore we have been very particular in our hiring practices. In all, we have 30 staff members. Click here to meet them and read their stories.

A Beautiful Facility

We take great pride in our funeral home facility. It is often regarded as being beautiful and contemporary. We have done our best to renovate our funeral home so it stays up to date, and offers all the amenities you will need when you visit. Our main goal is that we create an atmosphere that is comfortable and welcoming. And this starts with how our facility looks and what our space offers. When you are grieving, it helps to be in a space that is warm and that feels comfortable, and we believe our facility certainly provides this atmosphere.

Our funeral home space is flexible for any type of funeral service – a memorial service, a celebration of life, a traditional funeral, etc. In 2008, we had a major expansion which saw the creation of The Great Room. This room can accommodate up to 350 people, but it can also be sectioned off for smaller gatherings. It has even been used for community events and receptions outside of funeral services.

We have created our very own ash scattering garden at our Winnipeg funeral home that we call The Garden of Memories. When your loved one’s ashes are returned to you, you can then spread their ashes into the garden. Many people love this idea because it is like your loved one is returning to “earth”. Also people like the idea that the ashes act as nutrients for the soil and help plants grow.

Additionally, we have a gorgeous exterior, private rooms for viewings, and arrangement offices for planning funerals. Check out our facility photos to visually see the beauty of our Winnipeg funeral home.

A Winnipeg Funeral Home Proud of its Community

We have always been proud to be a funeral home in Winnipeg. When we first opened, we were hoping to build a close relationship with the Winnipeg community. We love getting involved in community events and getting to know Winnipeg families outside of the funeral home.

Support & Compassion

Traditionally, a funeral home’s main objective has been to provide the deceased with compassionate burial or cremation services, and then create a funeral ceremony that truly honors their lives. At our Winnipeg funeral home, we have added to this mission. We have made it a priority to not only care for your loved one, but to care for you and your family as well. Dealing with grief is very difficult, and you need support and compassion to get through it. We are there for you from the minute you call us to well after the funeral service. We are funeral professionals who understand the grief process, and can provide the appropriate help and compassion you need.

Family Owned & Operated with a Rich History

Neil Bardal Funeral Home is independently owned and operated by the Bardal family. The funeral industry has seen a recent trend of large conglomerates that have bought up independently owned funeral homes. We feel independently operating as a family business offers something special. Unlike large conglomerates we are able to create a relationship with each family that comes to visit us. Creating this relationship is critical because you can better trust us and we can provide a more personable service.
Our funeral home was opened by Annette and Neil Bardal in 1980, and then they passed it on to their son, Eirik, who continues to lead our funeral home today. The meaning of family has always been important to the Bardals, and thus we have extended this sense of family to how we service others. Each person that comes to our funeral home gets serviced like they are a member of our own family. Click here to read about our full history and story.

We Take Care of the Entire Process

From the minute you call us, we take the initiative to start making the funeral arrangements. Funeral planning can be difficult and confusing. You can be involved in the process as much as you want, but if you rather stay out of it that is okay too. We can handle the entire process on our own.

In 1982, we purchased our own crematorium. Many Manitoba funeral homes outsource the actual cremation process to third party companies. However, we have always wanted our own team to handle the process so we know your loved one is receiving the upmost care and service.
