Obituary for Ernest "Ross" John Pugh

Our dad died peacefully in his sleep at Golden Links Lodge.
Dad was born in Winnipeg and lived in various mining towns as a young boy. Eventually he settled in Winnipeg with his mom, dad and brother Lorne, spending his summers on the Sawyer homestead. He joined the RCMP in 1951 and in 1952 he was transferred to Humboldt where me met his beloved wife Jean. Dad stayed in the RCMP until 1954 after which he enlisted in the RCAF and married Jean. They had two daughters Joanne and Audrey. Dad’s career in RCAF/DND was mainly as a Special Investigator/Polygraph Operator. Dad’s career took us to many postings, Portage la Prairie, Baden-Baden, Cold Lake, North Bay, Lahr, Petawawa, Ottawa and Winnipeg. Dad retired in 1982. He then worked for Dept. of Corrections until 1997. Dad became an avid golfer and enjoyed his time on the links. Dad had an active social life and enjoyed chin wags over a cup of coffee with his friends, George Powell, John Watt, Ron Leslie, and Bob Scheer. After Jean died dad really enjoyed going to daughter Audrey’s (Greg) home on Sundays for a good home cooked meal instead of his own “cowboy” dinners. He also went to daughter Joanne’s (Ted) home in Calgary for Christmas. He enjoyed the festive season with his grandsons Joe (Britta), Paul (Sara) and granddaughter Katrina (Mike) and his two great grandsons Odin and Link. Dad had a new great grandson Leo.
Dad was a wonderful father, an interested grandpa, a patient great grandfather, a man who didn’t suffer fools, a man who could fix anything, a loyal friend, and a terrific role model. We will all miss him very much but we know “G-pops is in heaven with his wife and Kiki, so G- pops is having a good day”. - by Odin (6 yrs old).
