Peacefully with her children at her side, Lorraine passed away at the Riverview Health Centre after a courageous battle with cancer.
Lorraine is survived and will be deeply missed by her daughter Janet, son Jeff (Meredith), daughter-in-law Kathy, grandchildren Samantha (Harman), Nolan (Tia and daughter Mavis), Brendan, Liam, Morgann, Mallory and great grandson Robin. She will be lovingly remembered by her sisters Marie (Dennis), Eleanor, Nellie (Roger) and Marion as well as nieces and nephews Donnamarie, David, Sarah, Jordan, Kirsten, Rachel, Jennifer and Meaghan. Lorraine will also be missed dearly by her countless friends. Lorraine is predeceased by her husband Darrel, daughter Kathryn, son James and sister-in-law Vivian.
Lorraine graduated from St. James Collegiate in 1958. She went onto obtain her degree in nursing from the Grace Hospital in 1961. She moved to Swan River, Manitoba where she held various nursing positions. In 1981 Lorraine moved back to Winnipeg and worked as nursing night supervisor at Deer Lodge Centre until her retirement in 2005. Lorraine valued education and in 1990 obtained her Bachelor of Nursing.
After retirement Lorraine went back to the University of Manitoba and completed a Bachelor degree in Textile Sciences in 2015. Lorraine loved to quilt, sew, knit and cross stitch. She was a talented seamstress who made several wedding and bridesmaid dresses and completed many intricate cross stitch masterpieces for family and friends. She was a voracious reader who filled her beautiful home library with books she loved as well as an avid doll collector. Lorraine also loved to travel with memorable trips to the Yukon, the East Coast, Jamaica and a once in a lifetime trip to Ireland with her sisters.
Although Lorraine had many hobbies and interests, nothing was more dear to her than her family and friends. She made holidays and weekly dinners special and was happiest when surrounded by her loved ones.
The family wishes to thank Dr. James Paul and the amazing staff at CancerCare Manitoba as well as special friend Ron Carlson who went above and beyond for Lorraine and her family.
